I have spent most of the week writing Sundays sermon, and it has felt like I was in labor. Now I will not even pretend to know what labor really feels like, but since I have been present from start to finish with my wife as all of our children were brought into this world, and have seen the pain she went through (I think I still have scars from her finger nails in my forearm, making me wonder WHY I told her to get them done prior to the due date), I do have an idea of the suffering that a woman goes through.
Sometimes writing is like that. No matter if you are writing a sermon, a blog, a book, whatever, it sometimes feels like you are just in agony while doing it. It feels like you are pounding away at something and not getting anywhere. But my friends let me tell you that just as a woman in labor has no choice but to go through labor, we, as writers, have no choice but to finish what we started. And just as every woman I have ever spoken with on the subject of labor and delivery has told me, so it is with writing. Once the baby comes out and you are able to hold that precious little one in your arms, you know that it was all worth it. You may not forget about the pain that you had to endure, but just seeing first hand the miracle of Gods creation there in your arms somehow makes the pain and suffering somehow distant, and you see it as just a part of the process.
So as I sit here proof reading my "baby" I am awed, thankful and pleased that The Lord would choose me to write it.
I hope and pray that everyone has a great weekend. Dont forget to give The Lord thanks for keeping you safe and sound. I am off to officiate at a funeral this morning, and I ask you all to keep the Mason family in your prayers in this their time of grief over the loss of their Mother.
God Bless you all!!
